B.Voc. Gemmology and B.Voc. Jewellery Designing is skill oriented degree courses commenced from 2014 with the grants-in-aid of University Grants Commission (UGC) and affiliation to University of Calicut. Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc.) is a degree course with multiple exits such as Diploma after successful completion of first year, Advanced Diploma after second year and B.Voc degree after completion of third year. B.Voc. programmes are designed with the help of various gem and jewellery industries incorporating specific job roles and their NOSs alongwith broad based general education to make students ready equipped for the industry with internships, field visits, Indian and International gem & jewellery expos in addition to the theory and practical classes. This would enable the graduates completing B.Voc. to make a meaningful participation in accelerating India’s economy by gaining appropriate employment, becoming entrepreneurs and creating appropriate knowledge.

B.Voc Gemmology

Gemmology is the science, art and profession of identifying and evaluating gemstones and diamonds. This course gives start-up knowledge of gemstones and diamonds for a vast field of information to grade a real stone. It gives a fairly high knowledge and expertise in both practical and theory of gemology. The programme offers students a ‘hands-on’ practical gemstone and diamonds experience, leading to greater gem knowledge and retention. Job opportunities are as Certified Gemmologist, Certified Gemmologist Appraiser, Polished Diamond Grader, Rough Diamond Grader, CAD Designer etc.

B.Voc Jewellery Designing

To enlighten young artists with a blend of classical and the latest ultra-modern techniques, challenging each student to fully develop their artistic potential, creativity and originality. The programme offers the students an in-depth understanding of all the processes involved in designing jewellery-nature of raw materials used, common design patterns, the ergonomics of fine craft meeting real world treatment and other design and market related considerations. Job opportunities are Hand Sketch Designer, Certified Jewellery Arts Professional, Jewellery Designer, CAD Designer, Polished Diamond Grader, Freelance Designer etc.
